Home Remedies for the daily woes:)

What do all those things have in common?

…they are the simple ailments to daily beauty woes!

>VASELINE

Helps your lashes grow! Just lather it up overnight and see a difference over the coming weeks! Good for people like me who have an addiction to mascara!

OIL
…hair oil to be more precise

20120710-220133.jpg

One of the best things to do for your hair; once a week massage your scalp and oil up your hair with either olive oil, almond oil, coconut oil or my favourite, Amla oil (Indian gooseberry). Sleep with it overnight then shampoo and condition next day to wash it out. Doing it regularly keeps hair conditioned, and helps hair growth… I speak with experience. Actually, more like I went mental; before I washed my hair every other or third day, I would oil my hair beforehand and leave it in for and hour the shower and rinse it all out. I have to say, I saw my hair grow much quicker and stay healthier longer!

TOOTHPASTE

Also known as the Pimple killer! I love this little at home remedy and so will all those suffering from random breakouts at the most inconvenient time. Just dab on toothpaste when you have a spot and leave until it dries or even overnight. This stops the redness and helps to cool the inflammation.

DRY SHAMPOO

Now this is one on the best things ever! I hate washing my hair every other day and having to do the works after; drying, styling blah blah…with this, I just spray my hair, lather and viola! Freshened up hair! My favourite is the one the makes your hair big and bouncy!

Try these and tell me what you think!

Get Squashed

Who says getting or staying in shape requires you to hit the treadmill? In all honesty, I find the treadmill way too easy and definitely different then running outdoors, which I prefer since its harder and more challenging physically. There are plenty of ways to get fit while doing something enjoyable, one of which I have recently experimented with: Squash!

Squash is a high-speed racquet sport played by two players (or in doubles 4 players on court at a time) in a four-walled court with a small, hollow rubber ball. Not as widely watched and followed, yet it is probably one of the most physically gruelling sports out there. Squash players have tremendous cardio, endurance, agility and power.

I’m still frightened by the rules of the game yet really enjoy practising hits. One rally gets you breathing super hard and you are using your entire body! Something that I’ve started doing is trying to see how many times I can continue hitting the ball. For me, this means hitting it much softer and concentrating on getting as many as possible.

Now before you watch the video, I must, in my defence say that 1) I have a tennis background and have still not quite grasped the proper squash movement therefore I look like I’m playing tennis! And 2) you should disregard my leg warmers :D

The first video is of myself, and the second is of my husband, who is obviously much better than me as you will see!

Best Fat Burners

Diet and Exercise go hand in hand, so if you’re trying to shed the pounds, the following are some super foods, that help burn fat and keep you healthy as well.

> Citrus fruits: Oranges, Lemons, Grapefruits

The vitamin C can help to reduce the effectiveness of fat and may dilute the fat so that it exits the body. Grapefruit in particular lowers insulin, regulates blood sugar and metabolism.

>Turkey and other lean meats

Excellent for building muscle and strengthening the immune system. They are some of the most thermogenic foods amongst other lean proteins, as the body uses a lot of energy to digest this food thus burning fat.

>Fatty Fish: Salmon, Tuna, Mackerel

The omega 3 fatty acids in fish help to regulate blood-sugar levels, keeping hunger at bay. Furthermore, people who eat more fish, particularly salmon, have higher levels of leptin; a hormone which is believed to control appetite and help with fat loss.

>Berries: Blueberries, Raspberries etc

Berries help to improve satiety (measure of how you feel full) and also prevent cravings. Catechins found in blueberries activate fat-burning genes in abdominal fat cells to assist with weight loss, particularly belly fat.

>Spicy Peppers

Spicy foods help to spike metabolism and triggers Thermodynamic Burn, which is when hot chemical substances in chilli stimulate your body and drive more stress hormones to flow. It is when these hormones flow that the body begins to burn extra calories. This thermodynamic burn can last up to an hour if not more after eating spicy foods, however this may not be the case if you are used to eating spicy foods all the time.

Other fat burning foods include Whole Grains, Peanut Butter, Green Tea, and Green Vegetables.

Insanity

Insane…

First of all, Happy New Year to all! With the new year, comes the most common resolution of “weight loss”. But how many ACTUALLY follow that through?

Exercise is one of the most important things we can and must do for ourselves, I think, and not only to loose weight but to stay healthy. The benefits are enormous from the inside out, not to mention the effect on skin and beauty! There is something out there for everyone.

I’ve recently come across an exercise programme called Insanity (don’t let the name scare you) and it is excellent! For those who want to loose weight, I suggest seriously taking on the challenge set out in the programme. However for those who want to stay fit and toned or increase stamina, endurance and overall athleticism, it’s also amazing!

Just move the coffee table and rug from your living room, or if its a nice day outside take the laptop, and get going!!

Then, Share your results and motivate others!!
