Make Up Tutorial: Kim Kardashian

I’m quite a big fan of Pixi2woo on Youtube, as I find her make up tutorials amazingly easy to follow and always with an excellent finish!

The following is a Kim Kardashian look which i really liked for its simplicity in terms of nothing over the top, yet can be done for formal or informal occassions.

I tried the look on myself, but minus the false lashes and with slightly different products. One is always welcome to change things up to give it their own touch! All in all, I quite liked it and would probably do it a bit more pronounced like in the video if going out properly!

I hacked it…

Anyone that’s had long hair for a while, will probably agree with me that we get broody after a while and have the urge to just chop it. Well I did :) And to be honest I dont feel sad about it, although I thought I would be!

My rationale was, although at the moment I have long lucious hair due to pregnancy hormones, post-delivery it’s going to start falling like there’s no tomorrow. Plus, shorter hair is quickier and easier to manage with a little cub :)

So, the Before

Now for the AFTER

IMG_0002 IMG_0655

When I put it this way…it does seem slightly tragic, however, now it’s an excuse to try out different ways to play!

The general idea was to go for something simple, easy to manage yet still look like I havent given up on myself as well as avoid the inverted bob or anything like too much out there. So then I had a wander on Pinterest for Long Bobs and settled on a mixture of the following inspirations…

IMG_1140IMG_1139IMG_1138

Ideally, in a few months, the idea is to have Kate Beckinsale’s look (middle) of a casual long bob which means it can grow out nicely.

The following is something I found interesting for anyone looking to make big changes i.e. whether that be to grow hair out or to cut it to a particular length. Consider it a little stage by stage guide :)

Products to Live By

There are some products that you discover, which just make your life so much easier.

Mine, are as follows:

1. Dermalogica – Overnight Clearing Gel

IMG_0458 (1) If you are one of those people that have tried every thing known to man for acne, this is it, well almost! I dont suffer for any major acne, but I noticed during my pregnanct that I was getting more and more prone to clusters of breakouts on my cheeks and chin. I tried everything from natural home remedies to the washes and finally decided that I needed to spend a little more to get results. It’s a bit pricey at £34.00 (gorgeousshop.co.uk) (a bit more if you buy retail), but its well worth the money. I used it twice a day, in the morning before applying moisturizer and in the evening right before going to bed. It has worked absolute wonders in about a month and a half’s time. If you have really severe acne, try this along with the corresponding face wash, but if it doesnt help, there is always medication (oxytetracycline) which not many are aware of! It’s a 3 month antibiotic course which will drastically clear even the most severe acne however it does have it’s side effects therefore only for the worst case scenarios!

2. Sally Hansen Insta Dry Anti-Chip Top Coat

IMG_0461 (1)It would be a rarity that I be seen without my nails done, whether it’s gels, acrylics or just polish on my natural nails. However, I absolutely dread waiting for nails to dry and becuase of my impatience, sometimes never bother with top coat…until this beauty that is!! This is the mother of all nail products! Top Coat which is safe to touch within 2 minutes, and I literally mean, I can go and wash dishes without ruining the nails! This will come most handy post pregnancy :)

I even take it to my nail salon!

3. Maybelline Super Stay 14 Hour Lipstick

IMG_0471 (1)I just bought this a few days ago in Coral and Plum, and love it. It’s a pain to top up lipstick, especially if they are bold colours, at work and this has so far proven super effective. I love the plum, as it’s not too bold, but actually quite natural making it perfect for the office. It stays on for ages, and in fact, it looks better after a few hours of wear I would say. They of course have an array of colours but I decided to experiment with some wilder (yet still lovely to wear) colours!

4. Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette

IMG_0448 (1) IMG_0451 (1)

Hands down the best neutral earthy palette around especially if you’re in a hurry. I don’t really wear anything on the eyes on a day to day basis, however sometimes, especially for the office, I can just pop on a single colour on the lid and be on my way :) Amazingly pigmented and the shimmer isn’t ostentatious or in your face. Worth the pretty penny that it costs! The brush that comes with it is also super high quality and not the tacky spongey applicators which will never do you any good!

7 Minute Everyday Make Up

I think every woman should take a little bit of time to fix themselves everyday, even if it’s a mere 15 minutes; hence, my quickie morning make up routine below!

20120930-212032.jpg

Step 1 : Face – First things first, moisturise! Then, using a stipple brush I apply my everyday foundation, either the Rimmel Wake Me Up or Rimmel Lasting Finish. I’ve found that Rimmel foundations tend to be very easy to put on and blend quite well. They are so quite cost effective as they last for ages! After foundation, I like to quickly darken my brows, otherwise they get dulled out due to the foundation. I of course use Benefit Browzings, which you’ll recall from an earlier post.

Step 2 : Eyes – In a rush, I always keep the eyes simple otherwise they tend to take the longest time so for me, simple gel or liquid liner and mascara do the trick. I use Maybellines gel pot and Dior show mascara. Keeping the eyes simple give you options for lips.

20120930-211225.jpg

Step 3 : The Finish – A light blush on the apples of the cheek with a Mac powder brush, and contouring (New Kid cosmetics) using my Real Techniques contour brush and I’m sorted. Don’t forget, if it’s daytime there’s no need to contour heavily because you’re more prome to natural shadows whereas at night you need to create more of am illusion as there’s no light to play with. For the lips, I line and fill with Estée Lauder simple pink lip liner and any pink lipstick. Again you have options for lips if the rest is simple but pink is the safe territory for me!

Henna: An Asian Tradition

Henna is a flowering plant, used traditionally as dye for hair, skin, nails, leather and wool. Most popularly, it’s used for temporary tattooing especially in the Asian Subcontinent. Indian and Pakistani brides a adorned with henna or mehndi for their wedding day and there’s even a little tradition where the name of the groom is hidden in the designs for him to find! Of course, henna is not restricted to just brides on their wedding day; most women during a time of cultural celebrations tend to have henna applied on their hands.

A few days before my wedding, having henna applied:

Home Remedies for the daily woes:)

What do all those things have in common?

…they are the simple ailments to daily beauty woes!

>VASELINE

20120710-215452.jpg

Helps your lashes grow! Just lather it up overnight and see a difference over the coming weeks! Good for people like me who have an addiction to mascara!

OIL
…hair oil to be more precise

20120710-220133.jpg

One of the best things to do for your hair; once a week massage your scalp and oil up your hair with either olive oil, almond oil, coconut oil or my favourite, Amla oil (Indian gooseberry). Sleep with it overnight then shampoo and condition next day to wash it out. Doing it regularly keeps hair conditioned, and helps hair growth… I speak with experience. Actually, more like I went mental; before I washed my hair every other or third day, I would oil my hair beforehand and leave it in for and hour the shower and rinse it all out. I have to say, I saw my hair grow much quicker and stay healthier longer!

TOOTHPASTE

20120710-222150.jpg

Also known as the Pimple killer! I love this little at home remedy and so will all those suffering from random breakouts at the most inconvenient time. Just dab on toothpaste when you have a spot and leave until it dries or even overnight. This stops the redness and helps to cool the inflammation.

DRY SHAMPOO

20120710-221315.jpg

Now this is one on the best things ever! I hate washing my hair every other day and having to do the works after; drying, styling blah blah…with this, I just spray my hair, lather and viola! Freshened up hair! My favourite is the one the makes your hair big and bouncy!

Try these and tell me what you think!

Dress Diary: Bank Holiday Weekend – 6 May 2012

Every woman needs to have a couple of different Blazers in her closet and Zara, as usual, is on top form!

20120517-222928.jpg

I kept the make up classic: Liner &Lips.

20120517-223247.jpg

20120517-224921.jpg

For the Face; Primer, Mac Studio Sculpt Foundation, and Mac Mineralise Finish. Mac is a good foundation to build up and wear heavy without looking heavy! The stiple foundation brush on the left is an absolute dream!

For the Eyes; Browzings to naturally fill in the brows, Maybelline Gel Liner (My Obsession), Bourjois 2 Step Volumizer and Bourjois Elastic Mascara.

To Finish; Rimmel Natural Bronzer, Rimmel Red Lip Liner, and Chanel lipstick (The one from my post: “5 Shades of Me”)

This would of course sum up our day/night somewhat!

Smokin’ Navy

I used to have a simple make up routine like most people, until I came across Tanya Burr and her tutorials. Let me just say, it changed my world! After watching her videos, I began experimenting and have become quite good. Her videos are great for learning and ideas as well as getting inspired to try a different look.

She recently posted quite a heavy look which I thought was pretty cool for a night out! Beware, it’s VErY heavy, but very night-time glam! Do check it out below!
